Irony

This Tuesday, the board of education held a mid-year seminar for all the Kobe JETs, with one Japanese English teacher from each school also attending. During one of the presentations, we were asked to write what we thought was the most important factor for successful team teaching. Our replies were then gathered and sorted into categories. Several different subgroups were identified, but nearly all of the replies fell under the major category of “communication.”

Well, then. The seminar began at 9:30. I dashed in at 9:25. Why did I cut it so close? Because I didn’t find out about the seminar until half an hour earlier, when a teacher asked me (in Japanese), “Kevin, shouldn’t you get going?”

Notice of about the seminar was only sent to the Japanese English teachers who were assigned to attend, and they were each supposed to inform their school’s JET. The teacher representing my school forgot to tell me.

He bought me lunch by way of apology, which was a nice gesture, and I was able to get to the venue on time, so everything turned out fine in the end. But yeah. Communication.

It’s nice to see that other cultures find it difficult to relay messages to their subordinates as well.

Home updates: The weather here has been terrible and we have seen flooding and road closures due to rain. You’d think people would be fine with this. However, it was labeled as a storm and thus many people have freaked out.
Both the Huskies and Cougs looked to be headed to bowls but have fallen flat at the end of the season and as everyone suspected, the Apple Cup should be…well, scary to say the least. The Seahawks have managed to find themselves in good shape for the playoffs despite loosing some key players
Brian recently started a new job at Seattle DDB and seems to be enjoying working with some old colleagues from Sedgwick. I’ve been looking for a new job and should find out this week in regards to an interview I had.
Brian came down to Tacoma and we played Gears of War (new Xbox 360 game) with a projector from work (5’ wide screen on the wall) it was great to nerd it up a bit. :)

Suppose that is all. Glad to see that you are staying busy still. Looking forward to the next post.

I’ve heard that Gears of War is pretty good. It was one of the big titles expected to sell the new Xbox, right? So who has the 360?
